It’s official, we the human race have lost our minds. Forget global geo-politics, climate change and everything else you see in the news every day, the real barometer is the mania surrounding classic gaming consoles and in particular the recent Nintendo NES run. The NES phenomenon (yes, it’s a phenomenon) saw it sell out within hours every time a run became available and has gone out of production after not getting anywhere close to meeting consumer demand. The only available consoles now are at crazy prices from suppliers (we have one here at $319 – trust us, it’s the cheapest we could find) and still incredibly limited in stock.
Up next is the Super NES Classic, which will finally be available to pre-order in late August in the lead up to the $79.99 micro-console’s September 29 launch, says Nintendo.
“We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System,” says Nintendo in the post. “[We] can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.”
The whole space in general is heating up however – we now have competitors for Nintendo and other classic Sega and Atari consoles of your childhood coming out fast, as well as the likes of the and , both from AtGames.
You’ve also got the highly rated Hyperkin systems which emulate the NES, Super NES and Sega Genesis lines, sometimes in all in one bundles. We’ve selected a range of what we’ve got on The Mall to keep you sated and will be bringing in the newest range of Super NES’s while stocks last when it launches.
